Publishing in High Impact Journals:
How to Survive Peer Review?
14 OCTOBER 2022
MYT 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
1. WORKSHOP SYNOPISIS
Publishing research work is not an easy task, but the pressure on an academic to publish research papers in great numbers, if anything, is still relentless. Oftentimes, as an academic (or future academic), we are expected not only to publish a certain number of publications per year but publications of a certain quality. In Malaysia, publication quality is very subjective, but many have used an ISI impact factor as a yardstick of quality. The subject of quality vs quantity and pressure to publish has been discussed in great detail elsewhere. However, in this workshop, the speaker is willing to share their experience as an associate editor of a high-impact journal and provide insider publishing tips to all postgraduates and junior academics. In particular, they will emphasise “How to survive peer review?”, a fundamental tenet of scientific publication.

She is also active in peer-review activity and was one of the top ten reviewers for the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling from 2010-2014. Since 2014, she has served the broader research community through her efforts as an associate editor (in fact, the first non-US, non-European Associate Editor) of the same journal. Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling is an American Chemical Society Publication, with 2022’s ISI impact factor of 4.956 (QI). Habibah also serves as an Editorial Board Member in Medicinal Chemistry (Bentham Publication), Acta Pharmaceutica Indonesia and Editor-in-Chief in the Malaysian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
